Raiwind Ijtema under threat of terror attack
LAHORE: Intelligence reports have revealed threats of terrorist attacks on the annual Raiwind Tableegh Ijtema and the rest of Punjab. Upon receiving the warning, the Interior Ministry has directed the Punjab inspector general to enforce strict security measures for ensuring peace across the province.
The ministry directed Punjab police to enforce strict security measures around the congregation. Separately, the Lahore CCPO has ordered additional police deployment at all exit points. Walk-through metal detectors have been installed at all exit points, which are manned by police commandoes. All citizens have also been asked to keep their national identity cards with them while travelling in the city. Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation (FIA) Head Quarters and all Zonal Offices will remain closed today (Saturday) due to a “core mission” for FIA officials. staff report
